The other day I hooked up my winch to a friend of mine who was stuck and tried to pull him out in reverse. The motor bogged down and would not even spin the tires. Is this normal or am I doing somthing wrong?

I hope like hell it's normal because I have the same problem with mine and just "assumed" it was normal.

The Kodiak has a rev limiter that limits speed while in reverse. This is a safety feature to help prevent out of control accidents while in reverse. I am not a big fan of this, and some dealers can install an over ride.

Ditto on not using the winch as a tow strap this is very hard on the cable.

Just look at any Polaris and you can find out how to do it. They all have an overide for the reverse rev limiter. I have experienced the same thing with my Kodiak.

Monk, what did you do to override the limiter on the Kodiak?

The rev limiter overide will help when you are spinning the tires, but the problem with my kodiak is the lack of power to even get them spinning. I think the reverse gear is not powerful enough. In low foward gear there is plenty of power but not in reverse.

True story, the reverse is just to high geared. What is really bad is when you get your backside in a bind and have no way to safely back down and out of trouble.
