Default Cheap gaskets---Be careful

I went with a different top end gasket set in my latest top end assembly.

I usally use Cometic $40, but they give you all the extra orings and stuff that you don't need everytime. So I went with the Tusk this time that had a head base and exhaust gaskets for $20.

Well, the head gasket blew after the first full throttle run. The base gasket leaks oil. I had to tear it down again. I had to buy a yamaha head gasket from a dealer for $48.

It just doesn't pay to try and save money when you are building quads.

Thanks for posting your experience. It's easy to skimp and makes sense at the time, but when you have to tear one back down it's a real learning experience.

lol.......yeah no kidding.....I've too been in this situation, not by choice though. My buddy bought some gaskets for his quad that we were rebuilding......and they ended up with the same problems as yours. Not much fun to do it twice......but you definately know you are doing it right this time around......I'd rather spend the extra cash to know its going to be done right, and be problem free(well as much as it can be anyways)......

I bought an EMCO oil filter for $4.99 but haven't installed yet. I usually use a K&N. I am thinking that I should just throw way the EMCO.

Man, you'd think that if you buy a part that it should actually work. Not only are they cheap, they don't even work. That should be illegal.

Yeah I understand that.......but at the same time(and don't take this wrong cuz we all do it)......but you'd think if you just dumped 2-5k into a motor.....you wouldn't mind spending an extra $5-10 on a good filter.......lol.....I'm the same way though.....but I try not to be.
