Default Raptor 660 vs. Raptor 700r

Well, i have a few things to say about powerwise.Nothing about handling or n e thing like that. Now, a piped 660 will def take a stock 700 for god sakes. With some pipes the 660 will take the 700 mod for mod. Now, stock the 700 is a bit farther ahead of the 660, but that is what improving the 660 is now huh? They wanted it to be a better quad out of the factory, we all know that and that is completely understandable.A better comparison would be putting a 686 kit is the 660 so it would have the same cc.Then the 660 would blow it out of the water piped, fuel management, air filter, etc.But handling wise.....NO COMMENT...lol....i hate bashing my own quad but the 700 beats the hell outa the 660 handling wise.If you think about it, the 660 is actually a faster bike than the 700.The 700 is a 686, and like i said before, if you equalled the 2 out to a 686's, the 660 would eat it.But yea...if you want a quad that is super fun to ride, and fast from the factory, the 700r is the way to go.If you wanted a quad to put money into, then you would have a debate

I didnt realize you had already wrote this, I agree with you. I dont think your putting your quad "down" though. IF thats the case, I kinda am too, as I own a 700, and I believe exactly what you wrote for straight line stuff. Handling hands down goes to the 700, but equal cc's mod to mod, I am betting on your older raptor. I DONT KNOW WHY THEY WENT AWAY FROM THE 5 VALVE HEAD??
I just thought of something else, that isnt really fair to the 700. When you do a 686 kit on the 'ol 660, your usually bumping compression, which is going to be higher than the 700's stock compression, giving the kitted motor an advantage. Also, if the guy on the 686 doesnt have his quad jetted perfect, like the 700 is always going to be, that will give the 700 an advantage. Just thought I would throw those things out there too! Maybe it would be closer than we think, who knows? I havnt raced a 686 on my 700 yet? But my first thought would be that the 686 kit would win.

Mod for mod my 660 was faster than my 700. I can tell by riding with the same guys with both bikes and they can too. Once I got the jetting right on my 660, it never been beat by anything with the same mods (pipe and intake). Thats just my experience. Even though my 700 revs better now with pipe and intake it STILL has to be short shifted to get the best time in a drag race. Hopefully I can get more out of it by tickering some more with the TFI.

There HAS to be some kind of benefit to running the 4 valve head compared to the 5 valve head. If there wasn't, Yamaha wouldn't of did it.

is it 3 intake and 2 exhaust valves or the other way around. the way i see it is what good is letting more air in if you cant get rid of it any faster. just a thought

Its 3 intake and 2 ex.....and the intakes are smaller than the ex valves but there are 3 intakes.
All hi perf motors have bigger intake valves than ex valves.......in fact I think most all 4 strokes have bigger intake than ex valves.
So by having 3 intakes (smaller in size by a little bit) and 2 ex valves you still maintain that larger intake area and smaller ex area.
