I have been off and on looking for for a new four wheeler. I currently have a Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4. It just isn't fun to ride anymore. I have been looking at new and used sport quads. Blasters seem to be the cheapest. My big bear is semi automatic so it has no clutch. I just want a quad to get started in the sport quads. Does anyone have any suggestion on which fourwheeler is the funest to ride. I have read several things on the blaster. It seems like it'd be fun to ride and it seems like the biggest bang for your buck. I have found a 01 Blaster for $1200 nothing wrong at all. Or there is a 95' 300ex that has sat for a while and needs a new battery and carbs cleaned for $1,000. Right now I onl have around $1300 to spend and I'm wanting to know If it is worth getting that blaster and put performance parts on it, or should I just save more and buy either a different used quad or save even more and buy a brand new quad. By the way i'm a 16 year old and i do have a part time job so I will be getting even more money.

I would take the blaster. it is a good bike to start with for sport quads. I think you will have fun with the clutch. Then when you get bored with the blaster you could either put a big bore kit on it and a few other mods and make it fast or you could buy a bigger sport quad like a 450 of 700r.

So blasters are pretty fun? Who knows i have been wanting to get into racing for quit some time and a few of my buddies race bikes. From this site i have saw a lot of talk about blasters. If i get one I would put a pipe on it probably pretty quick. I still want to keep my big bear since its 4x4 but i'd like to go fast ya know.

You may be a bit cramped on a blaster.

Let me lay a opinion down about the blaster..I had a 03 that i really went all out on..I probably had 2,000 in the motor alone and it would walk all over my buddies 400ex..I mainly have 2 complaints about the blaster..First off is re-sell value..My blaster looked better when i sold it then when i bought it off the showroom floor and was very very well taken care of..I sold my blaster 3 weeks ago, and ended up getting around $2200 out of the $8,000 I put into makeing the thing a little monster..2nd If you are anything bigger than 5'10 or 175 lbs i would consider something different..I was completly content with the power my blaster had, but ended up selling it only becuase i felt like Shrek riding it ..Even with a +4 swingarm and 5 inches wider it still wasn't big enough for me..Another thing you should consider is that, In stock trim the blaster is already to fast for its suspension, especially with a bigger rider on it..

But don't get me wrong becuase i'm not knocking the blaster..I loved mine and hated to sell it, but it just wasn't appropriate for my size..If i was you i would go to a dealer and sit on it and see how you feel..Turn the bars left and right and see if it comes close to your knee's..

If you however do decide to buy a blaster i would buy used..Brand new there about $2900(17 RWHP) on the floor, and you can get a completly decked out 35hp blaster on some of the blaster forums or ebay, for around $2,000

Here's a few pic's of mine right before i sold it..IT was a fast little bike just a little undersized 4 me..

blaster with big LRD shining

Nice huh

250R 34mm Carb and the little power plant

controls

Pretty wide for a blaster

so what should I save and get? I have only rode a yamaha and a honda once but both were utilitys. I have been looking at 400ex but they are expensive. I have also looked at warriors and 300ex. The only thing about 300ex is i have heard people here beating them on a blaster and i want something i can expand on and possibly race in a year or two. I won't have a lot of $ to spend because i am 16 i have to put gas in my truck and pay insurence. To date I only have about 1400 to spend but by the end of January or Feburary i should have around 2000. I think I'll wait untill the summer and make a decision then. I'll have 2 jobs in the summer, the melon fields and my current job.
