Hey man, I dont mean to be rude, but this topic has been on here quit a bit, and you could save yourself a lot of time by just searching. I will still answer your question though, as I have both quads.

If you are "racing" there is no doubt in my mind that the yfz is a better higher performing quad. HOWEVER, if you want to just casually ride too, then the yfz isnt the best. It is purpose built.
When it comes to jumping, there is no question the yfz is better. The 700 is a trail quad, that is suppose to be able to take smaller woods jumps and give you a nice ride. The yfz has far superior suspension for racing/jumping, and is 50 lbs lighter,.... but is harsh for trail riding.

Mod for mod as far as performance goes, I still would pick the yfz, up untill the point you get into the motor on the 700 and make it a 734cc. With the right combo of pipe, intake, jetting, cammod you will get close to, or right at 50 horse on the yfz. If you pipe, intake, and ecu the 700 you will get roughly the same numbers, with 50 extra pounds, giving the yfz the power to weight ratio advantage. Not to mention, the yfz is made to scream. It revs quick, and gets the power out NOW. (Its built off the birth motor of 4-stroke racing.) The 700, relise on torque, and because its a trail quad, has tons of it, and the power is very slow revving (in comparison) and smooth. Still very fun though, and will get you into plenty of trouble.

If your out to make a "dune race" straight line fast machine, IMO, there is more potential for the 700 motor (686) in reality. You will beable to get more horse out of it, then the yfz. My current setup that is in my sig, has me running in the mid 50's depending on dynos. THere are stock bore yfz's over at yfztech that are running 58 and 59 with the right combo. Pretty impressive, and plenty fast for me, to realize that I am not going to spend the money on totally tricking out my 700. Its going to take about 5-10 more horse on the 700, to get ahead of a yfz running nearly 60 horse, which means too much money! IT CAN BE DONE THOUGH WITH THE RIGHT COMBO ON THE 700 AND WITH THE 734 kit. Not sure on the exact numbers on that kit, but it sounds pretty damn impressive. I am just not interested in dumping that much money into my 700, as I got it for trails. I will pipe, intake, and ecu the thing, and it should be making almost 50 horse, which is plenty for that quad, or atleast for the application I am riding it in.

I hope this helps. They are both good performing machines, but if your looking strictly at PERFORMANCE, then the yfz definately has the nod.

allright, i guess all i really want to know is.. what would win in a quarter mile race, the YFZ 450 or the raptor 700. then i also want to know what would win between the YFZ 450 and the banshee in a quarter mile race, and also betweent the trx450R and the YFZ 450 in a quarter mile race. thats the best i can compare them to find out which machine i want.

because where i live, theres alot of short, steep hills. I owned a KX 250 and it was fun to hit the hills in third gear and catch some air off of them. so theres some jumps, alot of steep, short climbs, and not any trails, just open fields and speed stuff i guess. thats the best i can explain the sort of riding i'll be doing. thanks.

All of those ATVs are easily going to top out in half that distance, so the one with the tallest gearing is going to win the quarter mile. I'm betting on the Banshee with its six speed transmission.

Well, like he was saying, that is WAY to long of a race, and that would all be up to the gearing limitations of each quad or the gearing they are running. I think stock, in a quarter the banshee.
If your just drag racing though, and your planning on stopping at 60mph, then without a doubt the yfz450. That will be the case until the shee or the 700's motors are messed with. But stock, the yfz for sure, and bolt on mods, the yfz. "MODDED" the shee!!

A more fair comparison of the three, is in a 300 ft drag. And, in the dirt anyway, the yfz will take it. That is a machine to machine comparison though, and riders can change all of those results.
