87 Warrior No Start Weak Spark
Okay,
I'm getting frustrated. I picked up this Warrior from a friend, it hadn't been ridden in several years. It needed a new starter which I replaced, along w/ a new battery and new spark plug.
When I hit the starter button, the starter turns the engine just fine, but it won't fire. When I pull the plug and ground it against the engine, I get a blue spark very intermittently. In 2-3 seconds of cranking it may only spark one time, if at all.
I began diagnosing w/ a Clymer manual.
Checked the spark plug boot and it showed open, so I replaced it. Same results as above.
Checked the coil, it showed bad, replaced it, same results as above.
I'm going to check the stator today.
Anyone have any ideas? I thought about the CDI, but someone told me that if it wasn't working there would be no spark at all.
Thanks,
John

Looks like stator is bad. When I checked across both pairs of wires as described in the manual, One pair gives a reading within the resistance spec (189 ohms) and the other pair shows open.
Where's the best place to get a replacement? I'm thinking Ricky Stator, but I don't know anywhere else other than the dealer ($$$) or used on E-bay (?? reliability). Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks,
John
