Default kodiak 450 tires catching winch

Just fitted a Warn 2.5 ci to my kodiak 450 using the warn mounting kit for the 450. I have ITP mudlites, 26x10x12 on the front. The front tire is catching the winch on full steering lock. It only happens when the front suspension is completely compressed but I think it will eventually damage the winch.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Same deal with my rubicon. I put on 26" titan 589's the real aggressive ones with 1 1/4" lugs. When id turn to the left all the way it would hit my winch and in fact the first time it did it, it pulled wires out!. Well after re sodering (sp) the wires which was no treat. (cycle country winch) I actually could see the rub on the tire and it was not much. I then shaved the tire only where it was hitting and have had not a problem since. I probally took out a chunk the size of a pc of starburst candy? . Started with dremel tool then hacksaw, then just gave up and used an utility knife.

Go back to your 25" X 8 X 12 front tire size. Or at minimum go to a 26" X 8 X 12 on the front. You have too wide a tire for the front.

i have had the same problem. i only notice when taking a shape turn like you have said.. but i'm not about to go out and buy new tires... might just go and buy the wheel spacers and see how that does. make it a little more stable while i'm at it.

Get some wheel studs from a 2001 grizz at your dealer (they are longer than the ones you have now) and make a set of 1/4 inch or 3/8ths inch aluminum spacers for your fronts and rears........you'll gain the width to clear your winch but wont be so wide that you put undo stress on your wheel bearings.

thanks kodiak660, i might just try that.. sounds cheaper then buying the spacers. so the griz studs are long enough so that i would put them in and then put the aluminum spacer on then the rim?

Yes......I had a set on my old Kodiak. they worked great for 7,500 miles.
I have a set on my 03 grizz and they work fine.....5,000 miles and counting.

Just make sure you get studs for a 2001 grizzly
