My Banshee got stuck in gear this weekend also. I was banging gears really hard during a drag and noticed nothing until I tried to take off again from a stop. I figured it was stuck in fifth gear. I was lucky this time. The shift shaft mechanism had jumped off the drum star. No damage done and won't cost anything to fix.
The first thing you should do Grandpa is take the right side cover off to see if you have any damage.
