Default Checking Stator

Help me out here guys. Im trying to figure out why my bike wont charge the battery. Ive got a Sperry DM-4100A multimeter and cant figure out where to put it on to check the stator. This is what the repair manual says to do,

Charging coil resistance
Disconnect the AC magneto coupler from the wire harness.
Connect the pocket tester (? × 1) to the charging coils.
Measure the stator coil resistance.

So what do I set the multimeter to? Only one that looks like it could be is the "->+" setting. Anyone know?
Do I hook up the cables on the V? and COM?

Put it on the lowest resistance setting(thats the x1 they are talking about). It should be a very low resistance, somewhere around 200 ohms i think, but it sounds like you already have the manual, so the specs will be in there.
I dont have that meter, but youre just checking resistance, and i believe those are the correct ones.
How old is the battery? Have you had it load tested?
