blasters weakest link

a buddy of mine is going to sell his blaster. i believe its anywhere between an 88 or 90. being that these were the first few production years for this quad, was there anything that prematurely wears out on it? obviously being two stroke rebuilds are in order, and the mechanical brakes do suck and wear out FAST. i know about these problems. other than that it needs a throttle cable, and a clutch cable. the kid wants between $650-$700. i dont think thats too unreasonable since all the plastic is in decent shape and there didnt appear to be any signs of serious wear. its all stock as well. im just wondering what to look out for on these early years. im mainly buying this quad for my GF to get her into this sport and also something to ride during the winter months instead of introducing my 2005 honda 400ex to the salty roads... anyways, any feedback would be most appreciated.

$650-700 sounds reasonable, how long since the last bore job is probably the biggest concern (assuming it rides well)? You can probably get something newer for a slight bit more. I've been trying to get $800 for my 94 with a fresh bore job and an FMF pipe and best offer was $500 so far

Well thanks for the reply. i just found out that its a 93 that i was looking at. it looks like the plastic is faded, and i heard the hub is welded... so i wont buy it. he also has a parts machine. which if... IF i can get both for 650 i probably will. tear the axels out and swap them so there isnt a weld... by the way firebirdjosh, you said your blaster has a fresh bore job... what is it at? .20,.40? where are you from? anywhere near Vermont??? let me know. im looking for a decent quad for my GF plus something for me to pound on in the winter. let me know. 800 for a decent wheeler isnt bad at all. what shape is your quad in?
