I'm getting a '04 YFZ 450 here within the next week. One of my neighbors just bought a '03 400ex, and put an HMF exhaust system on it. He claims he can beat me in a drag race, i kno this is not tru, but i need to know tho, would he be able to keep up with me? We're both pretty good riders, but i can drag better, maybe. Shouldn't i be capable of taking him off the start with my YFZ? let me know.

I think you should be able to take him off the start. put all your weight to the front at a certain rpm range if your popping the clutch and what surface your racing on. Because on my raptor i popped the clutch while racing a 300 ex rode a wheelie and passed him in third and i was almost an 1/8th of a mile ahead of him when we finished. so i think you can get him off the line if you can keep the front end down. GOOD LUCK! kill that honda

My warrior can beat a 400ex in a drag. If you can't beat one with a YFZ you should be embarrassed. Don't go and race him 5 minutes after you bring it home though, get some practice in first so you don't stall it, wheelie it onto the grab bar, or miss a shift, and you'll beat him easy.

He still has a chance in the trails though, it has a lot more to do with rider skill than it does with power. A good rider can beat machines that he wouldn't have a chance against in a straight up drag race.
