How do you make a blaster faster and better handling than a 400ex with only $1000? And in my opinion the pre-2003 blasters aren't great for beginner riders since the brakes seldom work properly, and can cause a bad crash if they're not there when you need them.

Let me correct myself, beating 300ex, warrior and STOCK 400exs.Better suspension than warriors and 300ex.
Used 250r 0r 400ex rear shock,any aftermarket fronts.
Port and polish, ported reed cage, aftermarket reeds,250r carb used, uni filter, used pipe and silencer, shaved and dome recut on head. well under 1000$ and doing as I stated earlier. The member on here called MAWCUS only has a 100$ portjob, unifilter no lid on air box ,310 main pipe, and a high compression head gasketI have seen him beat many and I say many 400exs with that little ole almost stock blaster............ Oh yea the brakes aren't the best but if you do a little maint. on them everynow and then they do the job.

Personally I'd go with a 300ex. They are the most bullet proof sport quad there is and you hardly ever hear of any problems with them. They are light and nimble, I am 22, 6'3 at 200 pounds, and have been riding since I was 5 and still think the 300ex is one of the most fun quads there is out there. But this is just my opinion, good luck with your purchase.

I would go with the warrior because i have one and feel they are great bikes to learn on and a great stepping stone to get newer and bigger bikes. You can put things on it, but im not sure if you want your 11 year old son beating you on a warrior. Also, he can have it for a while and take it through a lot before he gets ride of it for a different bike.
