So we are out at ST. A on the dragstrip. My wifes cousin on his 250r lines up vs. a piped yfz. The yfz pulls him by about 1 length. He is a younger guy so he figures he should run his mouth a little. "Got ya old man!". "yup" says my wifes cousin, "your in that ride nearly 9k, and you beat a 15 year old quad I paid 2k for, and you got me by one length, I bet it was worth every dollar!!"
Whats the moral? Give a 660 the difference in price to buy upgrades and it will beat a 700, or in other words, don't compare apples to oranges.
As a side note, the kid thinking he was king Shizz decided to line up against my brother in laws old J-arm shee(89'). This shee has about the same amount of money in it as the yfz did. Needless to say the yfz kept on going after getting pulled by nearly 12 lengths.
I'm not a hater though, the 700 looks to be a sweet ride!! You guys that have one should thank the 01 raptor guys for doing all the R&D work that went in to it!!

Are they faster? Sure. Do they handle better? Heck yes. Is the 700 making the 660 obsolete junk? Not at all.
Are many of the new 700 owners just as cocky or more so than 660 owners were back in 00/01? You bet.

This is kinda a silly topic but here we go....
Stock the 700 will pull on the 660.....But With these two quads it comes down to who has the deeper pockets.....

I raced a 700 raptor last weekend he had exhaust and thats all I am sure of. We raced about 5 or 6 times the winner being the one who got out of the hole better, winning by 1 length. He won a few as did I.We both raced several other quads as well coming out on top. I think the 700 has alot of power and improvements but not worth getting rid of my 660 for.JMO

What about this....If you took a stock 660 and bored it out to a 686 because thats the displacement of the new 700 and slapped the stock pipe back on it vs a stock 700. Since then it would be "displacement" equal would it be a better match?

Not really, you might add 1hp and 1lb ft of torque to the 660. IMO the EFI and 4 valve seems to be more efficent than the dual carb 5 valve it replaces. Now whether that's just because the mikunis were nothing special or some other reason I'm not sure, but I know the 700 has to be breathing better than the 660 ever did in stock form.

Hey, Dog,
It's been proven a long time ago that three little valves breath better than two big ones. Why do you think they still use a 5 valve head on the YFZ? They probably reverted to a 4 valve head to offset the added expense of the FI in addition to the new frame and suspension. They have to keep a certain incremental price increase otherwise you price your customers right out of your product. So which hi-tech item do you stick with; 5 valve head (very expensive no matter how you look at it) or FI (relatively dirt cheap). Market the hell out of the benefits of FI and they won't even notice you stole their excellent breathing 5 valve head.

Nowhere in my post did I say that 4 valves were better than 5, nor did I say 5 were better than 4.
If you read carefully you'll see that I referred to the combination of head design and fuel setup to feed it. The yfz head you praise is using a single inlet for 3 intake valves, the 660 used 2. What I suggested is that maybe the reason the 700 makes more power is because 1 inlet feeding 2 valves is more efficient than 2 intakes feeding 3 valves, or perhaps it's just because the Mikunis were just that bad.
