#1
Hope somewone can help me here im changing the oil on the Kodiak in the owners manual page 8-13 it shows the engine oil drain bolt and beside it ther is a bigger bolt with a washer under the gard where you can get at it just now i took the big bolt out and there was a screen also that came out with all the oil , i hope this was the bolt to drain the oil and what is the smaller bolt for in the book it say its the drain bolt hope i dint screw up i would like to know what the 2 bolts are for and the proper way for the oil change.....Thanks

The big bolt is for the oil strainer, and the smaller one is the actual drian plug. No harm done just make sure you put the strainer back together the way it came out. Next time on the oil change just drain it from the small bolt that is located near the rear drive shaft.
Good Luck and Happy Wheelin.

Trailmen,
I just did the same thing last Sunday. I pulled the plug out, and the spring and screen came with it. It is easy to put back together though. Did you change the filter also. I can't believe how expensive it was. It was a pain in the a$$ to get off without a filter wrench. I had to use a set of Channel locks.
How did your oil look? I am glad I took mine apart that way, because I had all kinds of grime in the screen. My oil was very thick, and black as night. I hope this is only because it was the break in oil.

Tell me about it, my friggin filter cost $18. That's ridiculous.....Trailman, as you already know from the previous posts, the plug in the rear is the correct one. And you didn't screw anything up by doing the one with the screen. I did the very same thing on my first oil change.

I used Yamalube 4 stroke oil in it. I asked the guy at the shop if that was the right stuff and he said, "That's all you need." I think it is 20w50. It is pretty thick. I wish you could just use regular oil, because the Yamalube is expensive.

Believe it or not, when I went to the Yammy dealership to get the things I needed for my first oil change on my Kodiak, I asked the service tech what oil I should use. He told me if I wanted the machine to last, use Honda 4 stroke oil. He said it was far superior to any other oil out there. That's what I've used for the four changes I've done, and seems to work well.
