If you've got a compression guage you can check for that. If you have a bent exhuast valve it should still start but run very badly. If you don't have a compression guage, you'll need to rig up a hose of sorts and figure a way to seal it at the spark plug hole and blow into the tube by mouth. If there is no back pressure you have a bent valve or two, or three. Are you sure it's getting fuel?

have you checked the timing marks on the cam with the flywheel?

Get a leakdown test done, its pretty simple any shop can do it if you dont have the equipment.

CT,

You have spark? I can't see where this was discussed yet.

I have a spare CDI for an '02 if you want to try it.

Then it's got to be a timing thing.

Check TDC the old fashioned way. With somthing in the spark plug hole going up and down with the piston, watch the timing marks on the flywheel and case. See if it realy is TDC when the marks line up. Did you blow into the spark plug hole yet? Put it at TDC and try it. You will know for sure if a valve is bent or not when you try it.

It could still be your CDI. If the problem is strange like this one, CDI is usually the culprit. It controls your advance. This part of the circuit could be screwed up.

It may seem to obvious but you may want to check your carb boots to make sure they are still seated. My Raptor had the boots come off just slightly and it was acting very much like yours.
