Just wondering what kind of oil you guys are running in your 4 strokes. I live in Wilmington North Carolina. Its semi humid here and 40 degree nights with 70-90 degree days. THanks for the help!

A 15/40 will work fine. A 15/40 is good for 105F heat and good for around 20F or so on the low side.

Depends on the grade. My quad calls for an API SF or SG grade, API SH or SJ with JASO MA.
I personally run 15/40 Rotella in everything that takes oil. I use it in everything from a lawnmower to 600HP small block chevys to even diesels. It is rated for everything I own; if I remember right I think it is a SJ rated oil. It's an inexpensive oil and I don't have to have 5 different oils laying around. Never had an oil issue in any of my engines.

Not knowing how much riding you do, I would say use about a 20/40 SAE. If you stay above the 20 degrees, this oil should be fine with good protection for the occasional cold days.

I also use the yama-lube from the yamaha dealers. It may be $1 more then another type, but i haven't found another brand yet.

Smart man........... (i'm a diesel mechanic) I personally like Rotella and totally agree with your reasoning.

I'd go with a 10/40 oil, what ever brand you want, if you feel your gonna be riding in weather 100+ degrees go with the 15/50.

20/40??? That doesn't sound right. At 20 degrees out that's pretty thick stuff to be pumping thru a cold bike. No manuals (or mechanics I know) recomend 20 weight below freezing...
