Default Oil wieght recomendations??

Originally posted by: Doctorturbo...Depends on the grade. My quad calls for an API SF or SG grade, API SH or SJ with JASO MA.I personally run 15/40 Rotella in everything that takes oil. I use it in everything from a lawnmower to 600HP small block chevys to even diesels. It is rated for everything I own; if I remember right I think it is a SJ rated oil. It's an inexpensive oil and I don't have to have 5 different oils laying around. Never had an oil issue in any of my engines.
Smart man........... (i'm a diesel mechanic) I personally like Rotella and totally agree with your reasoning.
I agree 100% with Rotella being a good oil...I Use it in my Freightliner.(430 Detroit Turned up just a little)

But i Run Yamaha Lube 20-40 in my Quads...

About the 20/40 oil, sorry, it only goes down to 30 degrees (according to the warrior manual).

It would still be a good oil though because tuckercapo said it only gets down to 40 degrees.

Ah! 40 degrees. Somehow I had the 20 degree number in my head (from the 3rd post).

Go with a synthetic oil in your atv. I use Amsoil in all my atv's that is made for atv's. Sure it's expensive but oil is the lifeblood of your engine so don't skimp.

For an oil that can be purchased locally, Shell Rotella is great.

I made the jump to Amsoil after much debating and that is all I will ever use in the future. I changed the oil in my g/f's 04 Bruin last year with Castrol GTX and it started burning that oil on start-up. I am happy to say that with the Amsoil, the oil burning and smoking has stopped.
