400EX kills Raptor
#11
I just got my raptor last week. Took it out to ride around and race and everything beat me on hill climbs but then another raptor showed up and the guy had his for three months. He beat everyone and it was bone stock just like mine but I don't know how to ride it good. So don't knock the machine it is awsome but they have only been out a short time and as we learn how to ride it it will shut you all up.

Actually what I see is alot of people on both sides spouting off at the mouth and saying nothing. The Honda guys are defending their purchase just the same as the Yamaha guys are defending theirs. The truth is this... the 400EX is on its 3rd year and is a proven, race worthy machine. The Raptor is a new, unproven machine with enormous amounts of potential. I personally haven't seen anything that makes me think the Raptor won't prove itself over the course of the upcoming season, but until then there will be arguments over A-Arms, Axles, etc. FYI, the stock 400 a-arms are weak and the swingarm has its problems too. I know this from personal experience
.
I've raced against just about every combination of quad/go-fast parts you can think of and one thing holds true in every case. 80% is the rider and 20% is the bike. Don't think so? You hop up a 400EX, 250R, Banshee or a Raptor all you want, put a top rider (Chad Duvall in the woods / Doug Gust on the MX track) on a stock version of any of these machines and they will flat out beat you.
I've never been able to understand why people are so hung up on what a dyno machine says. Heck, many of the top engine builders don't like to have there machines tested head to head in a dyno test b/c it doesn't mean a whole lot in the real world. They'd prefer comparing equipment by running several laps on various combinations of equipment and finding out what works and what doesn't. I feel that throttle response is more important than HP in a lot of circumstances and that is something that doesn't show up on a dyno machine.
What's the difference about which brand of bike anybody decides to ride anyway. If your friend shows up on a Raptor and your a Honda guy are you going to tell him to leave and not ride with you? Heck no, your going to go ride and have a good time. It's amazing to me how people that are otherwise civil become obnoxious, defensive and combative behind the shield of anonymity that the internet provides.
If you want to ride a Honda great, if you want to ride a Yamaha great. I'm just happy when I can find guys to ride with in the first place.
All the quad guys should just get out and have some fun before the enviromental wacko's take away all the trails anyway.

First of all, you Raptor owners need to thank us DS650 owners because if it wasnt for the DS650 the Raptor would not have been produced. So you Yamaha fans be thankful that they produced a kick-a$$ 4-stroke for you guys. Now for the Honda fans, dont worry Im sure Honda will step up to the plate and then we will have all sorts of mines faster then yours arguements!!! ha! ha! 4 strokes forever!!!! For whatever you ride!!
