Default What ever happened to the 2 strokes?

I've been away from ATVs for about 5 years or so and used to have 2 Banshees i never wanted a 4 stroke because they where slow and it took a much larger 4 stroke motor to out do a small 2 stroke motor has this changed?

Welcome to the atvconnection and welcome back to the sport David97. I always wanted a banshee.

No it still takes double the CC's to allow a thumper to compete with a 2 stroke. Emissions took 2 strokes down. you can still own them but cant find many new ones.

2-strokes aren't banned, every quad just has to pass a new emmisions requirement and none of our currrent 2-stroke quads meet those requirements so they are being discontinued after this year. Rumor has it there will be a clean burning 2-stroke in the quad future, but that is not for sure.

Todays 4-strokes are fast, but more to maintain than yesterday's 4-strokes. If you are a die hard 2-stroke fan, there is still plenty of them out there, or if you want a new one you can still buy brand new 06' Banshees and Blasters.

No more two strokes huh? Don't dirt bikes still use 2 strokes?

I'm a speed freak and always loved the banshee nothing could touch it back then with pipes and other bolt on mods. I admit i had a mojave 250 for playing in the woods and getting the mail. lol

I've been thinking about getting a Banshee or a YFZ450 or 660. Is the Banshee still king? In drag and speed....and they sound great compared to a 4 stroke.

MWQ wanting another quad?

They will still make some of the 2 stroke motors, but they will be for sanctioned races only, from what I understand.

With Evenrude making a clean burning 2 stroke outboard motor, the possibility for other uses has to be in the future.

Out here in ca you can still get 2 stroke dirt bikes and quads but you cant ride them year round. They can be raced year round in a closed course competition, but cant get into a lot of the riding parks out here. Not sure about the other states.
