Default "Front" shocks for the Raptor 700

What front shocks should I buy for my Raptor 700??? Which is a better shock, the 06' YFZ450 front shocks or the Elka recreational shocks "without" rezzies? I don't want to spend over $450, so the rezzies on the Elka's are out of the question.

I thought I had my mind made up, but a guy backed out on the sale of his 05' YFZ450 shocks. (He wanted $135)

Any thoughts???

i would say go with ELKA, or just save up and spend $800 on some nice dual rates with rezzies

I have the yfz450 shocks on my 700r. You can generally pick up a set off of ebay for between $200-$275. I picked them up to hold me over until I can save up enough cash for some better shocks. I figure that I will still be able to sell my yfz shocks on ebay for a minimum of half what i paid to put that towards my new shocks when I get the cash. The yfz shock are a big improvment over stock. I mainly like them because of the adjustability. I do alot of trail riding but I have started racing arenacross and motocross so it is nice to be able to stiffen or soften them with a couple of clicks with a screwdriver. Hope this helps

............Hey, how do you like those yfz shocks on the trail. Are they stiff like a yfz ride, or does the extra weight of the 700 make them a little more plush? Is the handling a lot better, or does it still feel a little top heavy. I know its not going to suddenly turn the 700 into a yfz as far as handling.......but just wondering if it is indeed a owrth hwile upgrade.
I am coming off a yfz, and looking at the 700. The BIGGEST thing I am concerned with is the handling. I think it feels tipsy and top heavy, especially with the stock tires. I know these shocks are not going to fix the top heavy feel of the 700, when compared to the yfz, but just curious if its better? good? or great?
Thanks,

They didn't turn my 700r into a yfz as far as handling but they did help. If you leave the preload and the clickers at the stock setting for a yfz the shocks actually lower the 700r about an inch in the front and I like it like that. When I race I have to adjust the compression up to keep from bottoming them out due to the extra weight. Also, when the shocks are at the stock settings the trail is a lot smoother on the 700r than the yfz I guess that is also because of the extra weight. I love the stock rear shock for trails, it rides like a caddy. I also have to bump it up on the compression side for racing. I have a gt thunder rear shock linkage ordered and i will definatly let you guys know how that turns out. It is supposed to work with the stock shock and add an inch and a half of travel.
