Default Almost a disaster

About two weeks ago I posted a thread about a noise i was hearing in my front end when i turned. Well today I found out it wasnt the front end. So today I pull out my raptor keep in mind I havent rode it in like two weeks since I heard the noise last. I pull it out and adjust the chain. I ride it a little and I hear the same noise when i turn hard left but it barely was heard to I thought no big deal the dealer will check it when he does the first service the following week. Me and my cousin go for a long ride. We go to a sand pit, drag race, and just play around for a while. There is a long 3 mile dirt rode and i maxed the raptor out the whole strip. I started to feel like a thud in the rear end when i turned at very high speeds. When we stoped for a quick break my cousin said my atv looked like it was handleing weird. I didnt see anything wrong so we paid no mind. On our was back we were go through slow trails when he yelled franticly for me to stop. I stopped and he said my wheele was wobbling a lot. We pick up the back and the rear left wheele almost feel off. There were only to lug nuts there and the two that were there were on the last few threads. I could easily turn them with my hand. My rim was all tore up by the studs. There were pieces of aluminum all over the rim. So i got towed back to my yamaha dealer. I got there about a min before they closed and he said it "may" be covered by the warente. How could it not? Its only 28 days old. What could have been damaged other than the obvious? I will always check all my lug nuts from now on. I must have hit 70 twenty times on the rode to day. That could have been a disaster

hey, at least it wasn't anything major. I don't think there could be anything damaged other than obvioulsly the wheel and studs.

were they factory rims? The second time riding after i got my new itp rims and tires i had the same kind of thing happen. we had been riding for a couple of hours and my bike was very muddy and did not feel any vibrations or hear any noises. Then i hit this long deep mud pit, was half way through in 2nd gear, full throtle!! And all the sudden i came to a dead stop, the right rear of my bike dropped about a foot, my front left tire was in the air and i was still on the gas! It took a sec for me to realize what happened. I looked back and my rear tire is floating in the mud pit and everyone is pointing at me,lol. Anyway i get the thing out and i have no studs left on the hub!! It also rounded out holes in my rim so they had to be loose for a bit, but i had so much mud on it i didn't even notice. So now i use loctite on all of my studs and that solved that problem.

Wow! The same thing happend to me! I was drag racing, hitting high speeds, when someone told me my back wheel was moving alot. To my surprise, I, like you had only 2 lug nuts left! Got lucky on that one!

Yeah they were factory rims. I only have 12 hours on it. Shouldnt yamaha cover this? My dealer said he will see. To me its a no brainer the machine is almost brand new

I would check the lug nuts for torque with a torque wrench.Maybe it was assembled in a hurry and the wheels were just thrown on and not torqued initially. If you can prove that the remaining lug nuts are loose then your dealer will not be able to squirm out of this one.

The wife and I both got new rappies and her back left wheel lost one lug and the other three were loose also. I didn't think of going for the warrenty to replace though. I found a brand new yamaha wheel for 53 bucks on ebay . Since then I check my lugs with a torque wrench every time I go out.
