No I dont think the Yfzs will completely blow away the big bores. Yes there lighter, but they just cant make up for lack of displacement. I have heard of some huge cylinder 450rs and Yfz some beyond the 525 cc number. Both classes of bikes have room for improvement but its going to take a very special build on a little bore to take out the big bores. Airforce 1's builder stated that there probably at the max on the amount of nos it can safely take. But hes still got some more cc's to go. This is the fastest YFZ I have seen. Alot of props to its builder.
On the other hand, the big bores still have room to go on the cc's and there not to the max on the nos.
Just a number to think about aswell. Airforce 1's bike was around 220lbs and the Big DS were around 270lbs. The pilot of the Yzf was 80lbs and the pilots of all three big DS were all over 150lbs.

Excellent analysis 1Big! I think you are spot on. They can't make a YFZ light enough to overcome the hp advantage a rotax can make.
I am not convinced the 450 will like being more oversquare. There is a point of diminishing returns on increasing bore alone. I think there is a reason the fastest 450 on the planet is a 480, not a 550.
