Yamaha Warrior knock sound...Help?
It's the starter one way bearing (starter clutch). When they start to wear out they will make a clunk clunk clunk sound when you start it, and then another clunk when you turn it off. It's not a big deal, it happens with most warriors. Sometimes they will go for 10 years making that noise and never have a problem, but mine started slipping and falling apart about a year after it made that sound. Just keep an eye on the oil filter for metal shavings from the bearing coming apart, and keep in mind that you may have to replace it eventually. Something that accelerates their wear dramatically is transporting them in gear when they're in the back of a truck or on a trailer, I didn't know that was harmful when I got mine, and I think transporting in gear is what tore mine up so quick.

I didn't install my starter clutch myself, but from what I understood the mating surface the clutch grips on is part of a gear, and that gear can get worn and pitted. I'd replace that gear, leaving the old one in could wear out the new clutch right away.
