A lot of us yamaha owners completely remove the useless parking brake system, bypass the sensors, and get a nice aftermarket clutch perch. Saves weight, and makes working on it less of a hassle.

Today I just brought home a 98 warrior that hadnt been run in about 3 years. I cleaned out all the old gas, cleaned out the carb and air filter and replaced the spark plug. Still had the problem described here and now I'll have to check the parking brake to see if there is an issue. If not I think I'll have to dig deeper into the carb. I just did a quick blowout.
Great forum, found help even before I asked!

There are 2 plugs that go in the clutch perch just unplug the top one. It that fixes the problem its the parking brake.
Then you can just un plug it under the fenders or cut it off. If want to remove the bottom one to put a different perch on you will have to splice into it and connect the wires together. This is the clutch sensor, with it just unplugged you can only start in nuetral and it will die if shift into reverse.

all you have to do is take the hood off.. unplug the 2 wires fro mthe perch and then rom the harness... then plug the harness wires together

Thanks for the info bberck, I unplugged the parking brake sensor but it still wont run smooth when I give it throttle. Missing and backfiring. Idle is OK. Guess I'll have to get deeper into the carb, maybe get a rebuild kit.
I was hoping to get lucky and have it run after a good cleaning, but the seller gave me $100 bucks back once I said it wouldn't run.
