Wolverine

Ya the wolverines are good and even better if you put an exhaust on them, although I think the best 4x4 quad for speed and performance are the scramblers there nice I had one they have 2 or 4 wheel drive which is nice you just hit a swith for 4x4 and if not you still have the fun of a 2wheel drive. The suspension on a scrambler is nice also. Either way you cant go wrong I do think the wolverine will hold up better in the long run!

I just bought a 99 Wolverine with SuperTrapp muffler, Bear Claw tires, K&N Filter, Full DG skid plate and push bar and its jetted of course. Also changed the stock lights with Helli off road lights mounted onto the front top fenders. Looks good. I go riding almost every weekend with my friend that just bought a new 01 BAnshee. We do a lot of trail riding and I ride hard but can keep up most of the time ( accept on long straights). My other friend has a 94 Kodiak and is always trailing far behind. I raced once down a dirt road with a 300ex stocker and I pulled away from him. Very impressive for a 4 by with shaft drive which is awesome because of low maintenance..
Strongly recommend this bike..

Yes........I have a 2001 Wolverine with a Supertrapp IDS2 and a dyno jet kit. This is a great machine. I have had it for 6 months with absolutly no trouble at all. The reason I bought this ATV was that I had a 99 Warrior and it was fast but didn't have the 4 wheel drive or the ground clearance I wanted, but the Wolverine has the same motor as the warrior. Another thing is that I have heard that the Srambler belt slips in lots of water and then when it slips it will burn the belt then has to be replaced......like I said this is hear say. I think the Yamaha would be more reliable.

I love my Wolverine, and would highly recommend it to others looking for a more sport orientated four wheel drive machine.
I also considered the scrambler 500, but it's lack of a low range I thought would limit it too much.

Yes, buy the Wolverine. You will not be unhappy. I have a 99 Wolverine. I have put the FMF Mega Max II pipe on, K&N filter, belly skid plate, Oxlite Front boot guards, UFO black hand guards, Cycle country 48" plow which I have been using frequently the past couple of days, the Wolverine does it all! I ride hard, and the Wolverine has some go, and I work hard as well. I will never get rid of it till it just plain up and quits on me and don't want to run anymore. And yes she is a looker because people are always looking at her. I have the forest green one and have a few stickers on it. Just a beautiful Yamaha!

According to everything I read about the scrambler and auto's in general, you will burn up belts if you do not use low range when towing heavy loads or heavy work type stuff.
I concur that the Wolverines 1st gear is NOT a super low gear like on most utility quads (manual shift), but I don't have to worry about smoking a belt because I am using it for other than it's intended purpose.
Don't get me wrong, from what I've seen and read about the scramblers, they appear to be a fine machine. They just don't suit my needs.
It may "not make sense" to you, but I couldn't afford to buy a quad for work and a quad for play, so I choose the one that I felt did both better than most.
BTW - I plan on plowing snow with my wolverine, how long do you think the belt on the scrambler would last if it where subjected to that kind of abuse?

When we raced we were on a dirt road side by side. What top speed do you think either machine can put out? His was stock and the wolverine wasn't. I know that I'm getting close to 60mph because when I drive on the side of the highway (60 mph limit) the cars are barely passing me.
Your probably right on take off but once they both hit top speed, they're probably very close. Also I weigh about 165lbs. and the guy on the 300ex was 17 and weighed around 140lbs, maybe..
I'm going to have to call him up and try it again..

I have had my Wolverine since Late summer of '98 ('99 Green Wolverine) and I havent had a problem yet. Runs strong and it will run with the best of them. I mostly trail ride with it but we also mud too so its not like the thing is a stranger to running hard. Except for some reason my brothers ('98 Green Wolverine stock) is a TAD faster than mine on the top....But with the pipe and filter and jetting I can sure beat him up to MY top speed before he starts reeling me in. I guess this proves all quads are NOT created equal. Anyways its a real fun quad we did a MX Utility race one time and faired pretty well......Mostly cause well it was our first time racing MX and we sucked =-) I got 3rd and my brother got 4th. The guy who won was on a bone stock Wolverine. So hey if you got the potential im sure the bike will take you there?
Except lately with my new Raptor ive constantly found myself asking my Wolverine.....Where's my power!? Why cant we do wheelies? =-) No its a great bike. I cant wait to get into mine and start messing with the engine.....Then maybe a new suspension set up to? My brother is thinking about a rebuild.....Trying to convince him to get a 435cc done out of it =-) Hope you find the quad you are lookin for! =-)
'99 Green Wolverine- Pipe, Jetting, UNI Filter, Skids, Black UFO Handguards
