I am sorry to ask AGAIN...I have read all the other posts and can't
find exactly what I'm looking to find out...I ride alot of trails and
hills and need the most amount of low end torque I can get out
of my sprocket set up...Right now, I am running stock set up (13/40)...
Do I need to go lower/higher on front sprocket to help the bottom and
reduce lower gear shifting? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Also, I found a post with a good explanation of how the sprocket
ratios work on here before, but I can't seem to find it now...Thanks[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

to REDUCE shifting... get a 14 tooth front...
however if you weigh more than 150 i would suggest getting a slipon and filter to help free up some more power...

You are trying to go in opposite directions, a 12 tooth front sprocket means you have to shift it sooner and gives you more low end torque a 14 15 or 16 tooth front sprocket will lenghten out the space between shifts, and give you more top end speed. Front spockets are only about 15 dollars a piece. I have a fifteen tooth on mine, but dont climb real radical hills with it.

While going to a lower front sprocket will shorten your gears slightly in can still reduce shifting depending on your riding. I run a 12/40 on my warrior (with 22 rear tires) and for my riding it reduced my shifting. With this gear ratio I spent 90% of my time in 2nd and 3rd gear. I could lug it down as slow as I needed in 2nd gear going down a steep hill with plenty of torque to take off when hit bottom and on open stretches 3rd was usually all I needed before it was time to slow down again. Again depending on your trails your experience might be different.

There is plenty of excellent hill riding in NE Oklahoma around Tulsa....
Places like Appalachia Bay, Grand Lake, etc...I am from East Texas

OKC(except for Little Sahara of course).....

I think I know what you mean by getting low end torque and reducing shifting in low gears.
Basically, what I did was to go 12/42, which gave me loads of low end grunt off the engine and I could put around in 3rd gear and not have to downshift for a quick accell .. yet 3rd was still long enough to carry on a resonable speed (around 50km/h, 30mph). With that setup I topped at around 102km/h according to my trailtech speedo. Going to a 15/40 setup for long trail rides I was only pulling around 107km/h because the gearing was too tall to get the RPM's up. Stock gearing 13/40 I hit 110km/h once on a slight downgrade and near perfect conditions. And took well over 1km to get there too ..
I found with the stock gearing, unless you had a good speed into a hill, 3rd was too tall and the machine would bog (I'm around 175 fully geared for riding), but 2nd revved out and left me wanting more .. the 12T fixed that by shortening 3rd just enough, but it was still long enough to carry more speed up the hills.

Just ordered a 12 tooth front sprocket from rockymountinatv to give me some more low end. I was bogging down a lot even in first trying to crawl along some tough rocky trails around the house. Hopefully this will allow me to stay in gear and not push in the clutch, rev up and let it out to keep going. I'll post the results whn I get it in.
