700 raptor pros/cons
im about 6ft 4 250lbs and have been trying to get some info on what quad is right for me.(z400,450r,or raptor 700)looking to ride dirt roades trails/track etc.everyone is saying stay away from the 450 and go with the z400 or 700 im kind of leaning toward the 700 but is the 700 worth the $1000 dollar price differance?I can get a 450r for 5999 and the 700 is 6999 what should i do?what are some of the advantages of the 700r over these other 2 quads?thanks for the feed back

I ride with a 700 all the time at the dunes. The only pros over the 450s I can think of is reverse and EFI. Even with EFI once you start modding, you need a fuel controller. The one I rdie with has all Trinity stuff (pipe/filter/fuel thing) and YFZ shocks and a few more goodies. All I got is HRC kit and pipe. He runs 8 paddles and I run 7. The only time he'll beat me is if I get a real bad start. For instance comp hill at Dumont I pull him atleast 5 bike lenghts. The 700 might be a better trail bike though, but I don't ride trails with my R.

I'm 6'2" and 220 lbs and have riden everthing from the 450r to yfz 450s and by far the most comfortable and forgiving ride I have had is the 700R Yaamy I own now. I can't count how many times just having reverse has helped me get out of a jam. You can bore and stroke em, pipe and chip em and they will compete wth anything out there other than the guy who spends 15000 in mods for his s stroke .You can't lose on picking the top selling quad in America for 2006 and most likely for 2007 as well. You can get a 700R for less than 6500 if you shop. I gave 6400 for mine and added about a grand in goodies. Got nerfs and sand paddles and plenty of saftey riding gear. As old as I am, I need all the body armour I can slap on when riding with my group. By the way, it takes some effort to get the front up on these. For me thats a good thing. You can wheely it but not as easy as a lighter 450.

I just bought an 06 raptor 700r this Saturday and I am about the same size as you. I love this quad....been doing nothing but trail riding and strip pits with some friends. I drove my buddies yfz450 Bill Ballance edition on Sunday and still say I perfer my Raptor for the trail riding and it was fun watching him and my other friend with a predator having to jump off and pull them around while all i had to do was turn a **** and step down on the shifter.

no not at all.......what kinda of riding do you plan on doing on it?.....You gotta think when trail riding you are not hardly switching out of 3rd but even when you do you will not have a problem keeping up with any stock quad on the market. And to all the flamers out there i am not saying the raptor is the fastest thing on the market just saying that stock most all of em are fast and pretty equal!

Ditto!! Could not agrree more. Best ATV purchase I have ever made was my raptor. I am not missing a thing either for 2007. Only change there is plastic. For the top line 2007 raptor,I can buy aftermarket everthing they added and have as good a machine for less out of pocket.

Before anyone starts bashing lets set 2 things straight
1) Just because I beat him in our conditions, Im aware someone else in different conditions might have a different outcome
2) I said beat, I didnt say wax all the races regardless of winner was close
I would not base my purchase off drag racing results. There isnt much difference and like most racing whoever spent the most $ is probally going to win anyway. Base it off what the 2 quads offer and what you like better. Shop around for a 06 raptor you can do better than 6999.
