Default Is this blaster worth buying? Please help!

Hey guys I've been looking around for a cheap quad, maybe one that I'll have to do a little work on. I found a 1995 blaster that is stock except K&N air filter, full FMF exhaust, and new turf tamers on alum. wheels. The bike looks real nice and clean from the pictures. I've been in contact with the guy for a few days now and he seems honest. He has told me what is wrong with the bike, there are three things. The first is the back brakes. This is of little concern to me because most blasters in my price range are going need some brake work. Second is he says a little oil is leaking from the case, probably from a bad gasket. Again this is a fix I could take care of fairly easily. The last is the one that worrys me. The transmission is off he says. He told me that first gear pops out occasionally and fourth gear is gone alltogether, but the others work perfect. He says that the rest of the bike is in great condition and it runs great, starts within 3 kicks every time. What do you guys think of this quad? I'm working on a price with him right now which I'm guessing will be between 600-800. Also what could be wrong with that tranny? I have a buddy who works at our local honda shop and he knows a thing or two. Will these be somewhat easy fixes or will they cost major $$? Thanks a lot.

personally i would save up more money and get something that works...when you buy something like that buy the time you get it running right you will be spending so much money that you coulda just spent on something newer and better. do what you want its not a bad deal its worth $500 i would say just because the transmission is no little problem. Good Luck!

If you are mechanically inclined them it shouldn't be that hard to split the case and put new gears in, and fixing the oil leak. You can transmission parts on ebay for cheap, or even a low end in good shape for little or nothing. One thing about buying a quad that needs work, is that when you get it going you will know a litll more about it. So when you have a problem on the trail you might know whats wrong with it and know how to fix it. All pre 2003 Blaster have crappy brakes. If you buy it post another topic I or someother blaster owner will be glad to help you fix them brakes. Iwouldn't give over $800 for it.

Hey thanks a lot for the replies guys. That helps. I think I may buy it and work on it. I'd feel confident opening up the bottom end and working on the gears, replacing if necessary. how difficult do you think this will be? Like I said I know a mechanic so he'd be able to help. Hopefully I get the quad now!

If you get the blaster take it apart, and if your friend can help you just post here and someone should be able to help you. I split the case on my to rebuild the crank, but didn't mess with the gears execpt to put them back the way they came out. It's easy to split the case, if your halfway mechanically inclined you should be able to tackle it. There also a lot of other resources for blasters on the web. Check out my site Boomerpowersports it has links to alot of blaster pages
