Hey. I have a friend who has a Yamaha Terrapro. I'd never seen one before, but it is the only quad I've ever seen that has actual power take-off like a tractor. It came with a mower and seed spreader when his dad bought it new in '85. Anyway, he is needing parts for it and the dealers say that it is so rare, they can't even get parts for it. We don't even know what size the engine is. It has plastic covering it on one side, and the chain for the power take-off on the other. It's never been taken apart to see. Could anyone help us find parts for this dinosaur, and maybe tell us what size engine it has? Thanks.

 

Usually, the size of the engine is written somewhere on the engine, and with the serial #, you should be able to tell what year it is. I think the 10th number actually is a letter, and this letter says what year your machine is...W is 98, V is 97, ....on and on.
Never heard of this machine though...

 

The bike is a 1987 and it's a 350. Parts should be similar to the YFM 350ER. I hopes this helps

 

My dad and a freind both have 1988 Terrapro's and the PTO is ran off a belt. They are both 350's parts are hard to find but you can get them. You ma have to take the part to a machine shop or automotive stores and see if they can match it up with something off of something else.

PS. what parts does he need???

 

Thanks for the info. What he is needing is a set of rings, maybe a piston too. He'll see when he gets into it. At least now we know what size the engine is.

 

Well since its something like that manufactures sometimes use the same pistons as other quads: for instance try a warrior piston, or other 87 model yamaha 350.Thats what i would do.

 

Well, we asked a machine shop and they told us that a set of rings from any other 350 should work, as long as the bore and stroke are the same. He's going to call the Yamaha dealer again and see if he can get a match. I can't believe that Yamaha would produce a machine for a few years and then just abandon it. It's like they pretend it never existed. I can't imagine why. my friend has ridden his hard for years and years and it has never needed any work besides brakes till now. Even with it smoking like a train, it still has plenty of power to spare. Oh well, I guess it's out with the old and in with the new.

 

Traditionally, that has been a knock against Yamaha for abour 15+ years. That is , a couple of years after they discontinue a model, you can't find parts for it. They have a history of not running up a stockpile of parts for discontinued parts. (P.S. I've owned a few Yamaha street bikes and dir bikes, and always after Yamaha stopped making them. I know my profile shows a Honda and Polaris ATV now, but I have run into this before. Plus, my daughter just got a BigBear)...

 

I had a 1990 model. this quad has a real diff with diff-lock . the engin is completely covered and has a fan that force the air over the fins for cooling.
bike specs. YF350 Terrapro ; 348 cc ; compression ratio 8.6:1 ; bore & stroke 83mm x 64.5mm ; 14.5 hp at 5000 rpm
