Did I mess up my raptor?
#1
A few weeks ago my stator went out on my 04 Raptor. I replaced it with an aftermarket one but when i put it back together it will not start. it is getting spark and fuel and sometime it will start for a second and then have a huge backfire and die. Any ideas on what is wrong? Did i somehow get it out of time? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a busted valve....... Just had to replace the top end in my boys raptor. Take off the tank and undo the valve cover. Turn over the motor without starting it and see if all 3 valves move. Try to move them also.

Does the gear inside the front cover change the timing at all? Is it supposed to line up a certian way.

Holy Crap the same thing just happened on my raptor. I put anothere yamaha starter in instead of an after market though. It cranks up and idles fine but when you push the throttle it starts popping and backfiring. We put a new plug in but still the same thing. Oh and redwingsrule05, make sure you connected the main ground back when you put the crankcase cover back on.
