It's been a tough season here due to the extreme cold and the 30 year high mast. I saw three bucks the first week of which one was nice but I couldn't get a shot at any of them. It's so thick where I hunt that if they get a few steps on you...their history. I managed to get a big 5-point with decent spread last evening. I was about five hundred yards from my truck on a logging road and to avoid a long drag, I broke out the 4-wheeler. I couldn't get his big A on the racks so I just tied him up and dragged him. I had to use 4x4 in low cause it was through some swampy mud. The Kodiak performed killer and was thankful to break it in. Any of you guys get one or didn't get one? Lets hear about it....

My father got a 12 pt buck 190. my cousin got a 8 pt. buck 160. And my brother got a non typical 28pt 180pt. The nontypical is pretty cool, little short antlers with little nubs on em.

I passed on 8 bucks (7 points /w approx a 15 inch spread and smaller) while waiting on a larger one. The larger one finally showed up while I was done hunting and asleep in the bed of my buds truck. I woke up to a 160-170 class buck crossing over the top of the hill about 80 yards away. Bummer! I still have till next Saturday though.

It sounds like some big ones are being taken. I had a wallhanger come up on me through the pines at 6:45 a.m. but couldn't tell what it was. By the time I figured out he had a rack, he made me out and bolted. Well, I've got Saturday and muzzleloading season still to try and get a trophy. Anyone else with some good stories or even a good lie??

Here's a pic of my Dad and I. Here's a closeup.
My Dad's buck is an 8 point, 205lb field dressed moster. He is passing on the head mount because he got a bigger 10 pointer bow hunting this year.
Mine is a 180lb 13 pointer. Check out the arrow stuck in his back. Someone got a bad hit on him in late bow season. I don't think that he would have make it through the winter. I am also passing on the head mount, because I have gotten bigger buck before.
We hunt on my Dad's land in Wisconsin, near Portage.

All 3 of my younger brother's also got smaller bucks. We were done hunting by 9am, opening morning.

I got a nice size doe a few weeks ago, I was gonna wait for the big fella but the season was getting close to an end, and the doe meat is a little more tasty anyway. About 6 walked out in front of my stand, it sounded like a pack of cayotees coming I'm sure a 4 or 5 pointer was following behind but I snapped. hehe.. Anyway, next year I'm holding out for a buck.

BTW: cstark, we can't access your pictures

I walked about a mile out from home on opening morning. 15 minutes after daylight I blew over a good 6 point. 5 minutes later i drug it down and through a creek and up the other side. Lo and Behold a very nice 8 point stood 300 yds away looking at me so i laid down with the other deer still tied behind me and put up my bipod. My 7mm Mag Remington Sendero laid it over also. so I had about 380 lbs of draggin to do at that point. I drug each to the nearest logging road I could find and hid them in a brush pile. 20 minutes later I flew back with my Raptor . tied the 8 point up and drove it home, then back for the 6 point and back home. so basically I had finished my hunting within 2 hours of daylight opening day. Pretty dang Sweet. Thats the fastest I have ever hauled out deer. arkward but fast.

Are you alowed to get more than 1 deer in the states? In Canada we have a limit to 1 buck or 1 doe if you apply and win the doe draw.

Not that we all hunt by those rules anyway, hehe ;-P
