Default 660R troubles

I guess a couple of troubles with my Raptor, first off it has been burning oil for quite a while, I don't know it it is connected at all but when I change the oil in my machine the oil discoloures very quickly. In recent events I was out riding last night and under heavy load I would hear some strange noise coming from the engine which kind of sounds like a chain skipping on a sprocket ( my drive chain is tight so I can't see it being that) or something to that effect. I plan on rebuilding the top end this winter with a 686 kit and with any luck that will fix the oil consumption, any advice with that other noise would be great. Thanks

If the chain is at the right tension, check to see if the axel is centered, it is pretty easy to get the axel cocked to the side if you don't pay attention to the marks on the bearing carrier. If that is the case your chain is probably running at a weird angle, which could cause some noise. You might have the chain too tight also. Both of these have caused chain noise on my raptor in the past. And the burning oil problem sounds to me like your rings are bad, this would also discolour the oil pretty quickly. If that doesn't fix your chain, It might just be that the chain has stretched and needs to be replaced.

-1 tooth from the stock cog, I was too lazy to count how many lol, you should try one, it makes a huge difference on the track and the trails

Thanks for the insight, I was sure new rings would solve that oil issue. As to that chain like noise, I have put a new chain on about a month ago as well as a new rear sprocket, plus everything looks to be at the right tension and at the right alighnment. I would replace the timing chain when I get that 686 kit in, but my thoughts were if it was the timing chain jumping my machine would die right out or run poorly. Regardless I do believe I will be rebuilding sooner then I hoped. Thanks for the advice.
