Could someone tell me what "jeting" is? Also, as far as putting a pipe on, is it difficult? Does it require welding? And one more question, Im confused as to why the trend of ATV's went to radiator water cooling, to have a radiator is to have a part that is begging to be torn to shreds from limbds, trees, small rocks, etc, not to mention hay seed...do you replace the radiator every 3-4 rides or something? It coulden't last more than a few hours in dunes or heavy mud...

the term jetting is know as reset the needles in the carb different sizes and position which should be done when you install a pipe. a pipe is an easy install no welding just unbolt the stocker and replace. the radiator is a safe cooling method that has been used for years in mx i never had a prob just keep it clean and ride

First of all, you should know that motors have carburators, this wich leeds the gas into the engine. This carburator has jets. The jets are screws with a hole in it. That hole is precisely numered and the gas passes throw it. When you change this jets or screws to change the way your engine runs, you are jetting.
The radiator is a very effective way to decrease your engine temperature ( this is by passing fresh water or coolant by the sides of the piston head ). Not all atvs has a radiator because they are expensive and the engine must be designed to sopport one. They are supposed to last lots of years. You just have to clean them often and change the coolant every year.
What ATV do U have ?

ilikegasoline,
Radiators are alittle more durable then that! One of the by products of increasing power in an engine is heat. Air cooling alone, at times, can not dissipate this heat rapidly or effectively enough. That is the main reason for water cooling, and oil cooling as well. I to share your concerns about radiator durability in a quad. They seem to hold up well, but I hear stories from time to time about people having problems with them. Another negative by product of water cooling is weight! In a street application the power increase that liquid cooling will facilitate, will out weigh the added weight. In a quad however, that added weight makes handling more difficult. In general, excess weight on a quad is a negative thing. There are times when weight is an advantage. Like when you are pulling heavy loads, or need more traction on hard ground. Other then that, its really a liability.

Radiators hold up well. I only know of 2 that ever leaked. One had a steel rod go through the grille, into the radiator. The owner (brother in law) fixed it himself. Just pinched off the punctured coil & sealed it with J B weld. The other one was in a shed that a tornado took. It left the ATV there, but I think the sudden de-pressurization ruptured something in it. It cost $35 to fix at a radiator shop. It was wierd...the whole building was gone, but the ATV wasn't even tipped over. The gas was somehow sucked out, too.
I think 01 Grizz has a point, weight is a factor. In a utility use situation, low speed, high load, they are great. In a sport machine, it would have to be a trade off between performance and weight. I think performance will eventually win, as all the MX bikes I see over 250cc are water cooled.

Water cooling is FAR superior to air cooling in almost all, if not all applications. My banshee would not be near as fast if it was an air cooled 2 stroke.
