Just did the 686 conversion to my raptor, managed to fire it up this afternoon and it made an awful knocking noise which I hope is coming from the top end. I adjusted the valves before I put it all back together and everything seemed to go very smoothly, other then the possibility of out of adjustment valves what else could it be??
Plus, I was reattaching the throttle cable to the carbs and something must have happened but the spring that closes the throttle plates popped off and now I can't get it wrapped back around again. Any ideas on either would be great, thanks
Terry

yeah dont start it until you know the problem...you prolly have the valves adjusted to the wrong stroke and with the carbs, i dont know what ur talking about, are you talking about the spring thats on the needle?

I got the spring issue worked out, but am still having troubles with the loud ticking. I pulled it apart again and made sure the timing was right as well as re adjusted the valves once again but with the same result. Another thing I noticed was alot of air moving out of the cranck case vent as well as out of the oil resovoir, not sure if that is normal. Any help at this point would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Terry

I would be willing to bet your decompression pin is 180 out on your camshaft.
