well usually on a 2 stroke due to the high compression that they have the top end usually has to be rebuilt every so often and 2 strokes tend to foul plugs...check for any leaks and make sure it looks well maintaned...just ride it and see how it feels and if it seems and sounds like its running good then I would get it I would jsut inspect the whole quad overall

Always check the bushing and bearings. Have someone hold each end for you while you check for play. If more than a small amount of play look at replacing them or if you are as picking as me walk away. The rear bearing carriers go bad from poor maintence to the bearings. Make sure the frame is straight (stand it up if you need too). Also make sure the tie rods and steering stem are not bent. This can be seen by the tires not pointing in the same direction or to one side. Take it for a spin make sure the clutch pull is strong, meaning both in hand pull and machine pull. Check the oil. Look for excessive smoke and ask them what type and ratio fuel/oil mix they use. Make sure it drives straight. I probably wouldn't buy anything older then say 2002 if it is in your price range. I know some of these things seem trivial but these are things I look for. Hope this helps. I've owned a bunch of Banshees.

The Banshee has a very hard hit so it is very difficult to guage the compression just be seat of the pants riding. You should bring a compression guage and check the compression in both cylinders. It has been awhile since I needed to do this but my recolection is that a stock motor should have something like 120 psi minimum and that pressure in both cylinders should be within a few psi of each other. Riding with too low compression can result in piston skirt breakage and bottom end damage. You should determine what is acceptable compression, don't use my guess from years ago, and then you will know what needs to be done. For many riders the Banshee is easier to ride when the top end is worn out so the top end maint gets delayed until too late.
