Default Question on Uni air filter

I just bought a Uni air filter for my '06 Grizzly. Is there supposed to be a liner for the inside of the filter for clamping it on? Or do you just clamp the foam directly on? I'm used to K&N filters so I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks.

well, i dont know about a grizz, but my UNI on my rancher uses the stock air filter frame thing. It's the metal insert that goes inside the filter and holds the filter from collapsing under acceleration.

If all you bought was the stock replacement uni filter, you will need to keep the entire stock setup except the foam part itself. You will need to use the stock wire frame and end cap with your new uni.

That is, unless you specifically bought a clamp-on uni filter kit, which comes with an aluminum adapter

I see what you mean. I looked at my air filter tonight and now I see what you're talking about and it makes sense. Thanks for the help for the Uni noob.

Default Question on Uni air filter

Just be careful when you put it back together. The airbox lid holds the filter tight against the port on the airbox. If you just drop the lid straight down the filter won't seal up right, you need to start with the lid towards the back, and push it down and forward into position if you want it to seal up properly. This filter system is severely flawed, that's why they make clamp-on kits for them.

Default Question on Uni air filter

Thanks for the info. I noticed it wasn't the easiest to put back on. I may look at getting a clamp on kit over the winter. I just wanted to get a better filter on for now. Thanks again for the info.
