Grizzly 450 - how is the power?
I have a Suzuki Eiger 400 5-speed and wondered how the Grizzly 450 would compare powerwise? I have not yet ridden a 450 but I got to take a Grizzly 400 for a parking lot test ride and it did not feel at all impressive. Is the 450 more peppy? From the specs the 450 is the quad for me as t has all the features I now want. I did a search and have read things where people said it was a dog. Is this true? I think it has a 2 valve head and wondered if this might be part of the reason?
My Eiger is by no means a powerhouse but it does pretty well. If it had a locker, independent and had I bought an auto in the first place I probably wouldn't be looking at the Grizzly 450.

I don't have a Grizzly 450, but we did have a 2005 Kodiak 450, which was pretty much the same thing. It was definitely gutless in my opinion. It was my wife's quad, and we just bought her a replacement ATV. She asked for a Grizzly 700 this time around, so that ought to tell you something.

And because of the way the engine is tuned. It has great low end power, and great torque for a 450, but the mid-range is mediocre, and there is no top end power at all. It would be a great ATV for someone that only did 5 mph super technical hard core trails, and was never in a hurry, and never needed to rev the engine.

I have a Kodiak 450 and don't believe it's gutless. That being said, I sprang for the clutch kit and power kit (air filter and jet). It's every bit as snappy as the 450's and 500's I run with. A nice machine I think you'd like. The clutch kit made it much snappier.

It's not a quad to race around on... And it's not going to perform like the big bores.... It has the power when you need it... (mud/snow) It may not pull your bigger quads otta the mud by itself (i'm talkin 800lbs quads in the deep sticky stuff) ... but stick a winch on it, and lil knowhow on ****** blocking, and you're fine in almost any condition... My dad liked it better than the Griz, just cause he felt like it didn't beat him up as much on a long ride... (navigating tight turns at low speed... requiring more arm strength to control the diff-lock)
Because it's lighter, it'll fly thru some stuff that the bigger quads will get stuck in as well... It's just a fun nimble quad... for those that want to keep up with the big boys, with less effort...
