Sparks Ignition key- Affect Rev limiter?
#1
I just got the key put in my raptor and I must be crazy but I think it sounds different!@# Anyways I think it affected my rev limiter kickon RPM or however it controls that stuff. I was riding the quad home from the shop and I was in third punched it and the limiter came on BIG TIME. I was very concerned with this because it felt like the plug filed and it wouldn't get up and go. However I stopped and started again . Trying the same thing from scratch and it was fine. I din't get a chance to really ride it this weekend(got it back of Friday). Could this key affect the Limiter. Could the ignition advance maybe be filing my plug? on a four stroke? Any help or pointers?

I have read here in these post that some people have recieved the wrong woodruff key. They got the 400ex one instead of the Raptor one. I have the Curtis Sparks key myself but have not put it in yet. Hopefully I've got the correct one.

Why dont you call sparksracing and see what they have to say I too have the sparks key but I am not sure if I am going to use it, my quad is at TC Racing gettin some mods so if it runs great when I get it back I will not even put the key in. I would call them and explain to them what happened and why! Also I would ride the quad a little longer and see if it does it again and the dealer may have installed it wrong alot of the dealeres believe it or not dont know anymore than the average guy who works on there own quad I would never take my quad to my local dealer I am sure I know as much as them if not I will learn buy a service manual and do all your maintenace yourself at least you know its done right! They may have installed it wrong I know the red has to racing a certain way, so call sparks and see whats up and good luck!

I think I am gonna wait to see how it runs on a longer ride. Anyways the guy I took has been in the racing/repair business since I can remember. Adams cycle maybe you've heard of him(Since your from PA). He does good work and passes along the deal. I got an oil change(with filter), valve adjustment, and this key installed for like 75$ . Come to think about it I think my air filter is due for a good cleaning maybe that's part of the problem. Then I'll see whats up. So Xtrem165 your from Apollo where is that located in PA.

'Curtis Sparks Ignition advance key'
You exchange ignition advance key with the stock woodruff key located under the flywheel. It advances your ignition 7 degrees thus making your spark plug fire 7 degrees before it actually should. Basically it cuts down the time it takes the piston to rotate. An example is say it took the piston 87/100 of a second to go a through all the stages of input/output this key cuts it down to 80/100. Keep in mind this is an example I am really not sure how long it takes. I've heard it's a little risky to go past a 4 degree advance. This key is a 7 degree advance. Ohhh What are you talking about ignorance this is a forum. The only ignorance around here is from the 'My quad is faster than yours' riders.

You might of heard of him. He probaly races down there somewhere. Hector Adams he's from Summerhill. Oh yeah excellent riding We got it all - Hillclimbs, strip roads, trails, and duning(COAL Duning that is). Yeah I go down through Murraysville on my way to Pittsburgh It's about an hour away on 22E between Johnstown and Altoona. We definately should hook up some time. Lately though No one really rides up here(uhh waaaah I'm too cold) and it's not half as fun if your out by yourself, you know what I mean. I can't wait until spring/summer when the woods are packed.
