Should I buy a Kodiac?????
#1
I need info on the new automatic Kodiac 4x4. I will be using it mainly to ride through the mud as well as up hills! How deep can i take the kodiac in water and not worry about belt slippage. How does its 4x4 system work? Does it do good in the mud and on hills? Is it sporty as wells as utility? Main thing I need to know is about the reliability and the belt slippage issue???

You should search this forum go back several months if needed & you will find most of your answers.
No doubt that other manufacturers will come in here & tell you that there ride is better for various reason.
Rememeber this the Kodiak was voted best in class, enough said.
I really liked the Kodiak, it handles well in the woods, there were a few problems with the intial Kodiaks belt getting wet. I believe Yamaha has addressed this. Get a '01 model it has a speedo on it.

I have a 2000 Kodiak. A friend took it through a mud bog, about 1/2 way up the engine. After towing it home and performing major surgery for six hours to get all the mud out of the clutch system, it ran fine. I went over the quad, making sure the clutch vents and everything were tight. Took it back out, went through some very shallow streams, and experienced major belt slippage. This bike does not like water at all. Besides that, it's a great bike.

I don't understand this mud/water thing with the Kodiak. My 2000 Kodiak was purchased new in June 2000 and I've been through enough mud and water to waste 3 complete sets of brake pads (front and rear) on the quad. Not once did I experience any belt slippage whatsoever. Maybe mine's sealed better than some, but I believe mine will float before it slips. It's a super flexible machine and I have no doubt that if I bought a new quad today, it would be another Kodiak.

I concur with Snowshark and some of the others here. Go back in the June and July forums and you will see comments about the plastic, racks and the wearing of brake pads, but other than that I would buy another Kodiac. For me this is plenty of machine for a 49 year old

I've had water and mud up to seat and NO slippage at all...ever. If someone got mud or water in the clutch housing, it was a fluke from the factory, defect or operator error. I wouldn't even own a bike that slipped even rarely. It is a solid bike and zero problems in 900 hard WV miles, although I did replace worn rear brake pad at 700 miles which is just wear and tear.

I had my 01 kodiak in the river and in mud bogs and had the water over the fenders and never had a problem with the belt slipping and no water in the snorkel. This is a REALLY GREAT MACHINE. NOWONDER IT WAS THE FOUR WHEELER OF THE YEAR!!!!

I own a 00 kodiak and like it so much I just bought my dad a 2001 for xmas. Never had any slippage problems or any problems for that matter. I ride mine extremely hard and have been amazed that nothing has went wrong but I believe it was built pretty tough and am confident it will last a long, long time.

I just bought a 2001 Kodiak and I love it. Like the others I have had mud and water up to the seat, in the cold no less, and havn't experainced any problems. Of course this is a new machine and I will let you know if I have any problems along the way.
