My Dad has a 2000 Kodiak, and has never had any problems in 1 to 2 feet of water, and has never had any problem im mud.

I really can't say anything bad about it. It is a great trail quad. Quick and nimble. Just smaller than I like. But I surely wouldn't discourage someone from buying one.

Have to tell of my experience on belt slipping.. My 2000 kodiak. The machine performed great for a year, then all of a sudden the belt started to slip whenever it was exposed to even a little water. The machine is a Ranch machine, with many riders, some of whom are hired people, who don't give a crap about maintaince. Upon investigation, it was discovered the induction hose on the front of the belt housing had disconnected just a tad, and there was the same as almost a inch and a half hole direct route to the belt assembly. Bad scene. Pay attention to this. Other then this, good machine, but to much plastic on the machine, and COMEON, $15.00 for a friggin oil filter?

Oh yeah forgot to mention, when you buy your machine do not take it from the dealership with the stock brake pads uless you plan to leave it in the shed most of the time, just get the heavy duty pads, and everything will work. Not a big deal, just the Yamaha way of doing business. Love it or leave it.

If you plan on using 4 wheel drive than i would buy a kodiak. It is atv actions atv of the year right. It didn't get that title from being a slouch. They are sporty and yamaha is very very reliable.

I think you have a major leak at your belt housing cover.Take it of and silicon all the way around the edge and put it back on.My friend has a 2000 Kodiak and after every ride we drive them along the beach up to our knees in water to clean off the mud and never had the belt slip.

Congrats on the good deal, I think the machines will work well for you. The stock pads will wear out in short order. Your dealer should be able to outfit you with Yamaha pads that are rated severe duty or something like that. I replaced the original pads within weeks, and the replacements will have to be done within a few more months, but it is a lot better then the originals. The manual details how to determine the wear on the pads, don't risk the rotor. It will take a few miles of poor braking to wear the harder pads in, but they work.
