When it comes to sports quads, it is ABOUT being the fastest. Thats why they ride them otherwise we would all ride utility quads.

Speed thats what its all about!

My buddy has a 98 400 and its not even close and I have never hit 5th yet becase where we ride there isn't enough room. He says he is done with the 400 and he wants a Raptor.

I own both bikes. I just rebuilt the Scrambler 400 this summer, but my new Raptor will trounce it. I still prefer the gas-n-go Skrambler in the muck because it is a 4x4 and has better clearance. But on any other surface, I'll take the Raptor.

I never thought that this topic would get brought back to life.
When I first created this topic almost everyone got offended I put scrambler and raptor in the same sentence.
I still think in "power" wise the scrambler 400 is near equal to the raptor.PERIOD.

Of course I get faster and faster...I AM FASTER!!
Just one detail...why do you always want to race on gravel roads?? And anyways, the time it took me some time to catch you, you cheated!! you were in 4x4! :P
...you're gonna force me to put back on the aftermarket pipes!
Anyways, I think that for the months to come, you're gonna beat me bad (snow is falling )

If thats correct then the bombardier ds 650 can roll right over a banshee to. According to dirt wheel the ds650 beats the raptor in a drag.
I'm not trying to promote bombardier I'm only stating the facts.

I have a modified '96 Scrambler 400 4x4 that I've been very happy with. I also have a Raptor. My experience is similar to what others have said. My Scrambler is faster just off the line, but the Raptor catches up quickly, and there's no comparison after that. The Raptor is still "new" to me with only six hours on it, but after riding the Raptor, I got back on the Scrambler and I couldn't believe the difference! The Scrambler felt bulky and non-responsive. I'm not cutting down the Scrambler, but the Raptor is much more responsive! The Scrambler now belongs to my wife.

It's funny, people say a drag race isn't important but the first time you get a Banshee, DS, Scrambler owner together, the first thing they want to do is line 'em up to see who has bragging rights. Plus it's allot of fun. Anyway, I dont know about the Raptor but My scrambler is exactly tied w/ my friends mildly modified Banshee up to the begining of 6th gear but when he winds out 6th gear he leaves me like I'm standing still. We raced twice on, dry hard pack & which my 4wd gave me no advatage since we were exactly side by side from the holeshot on. He has a high compression head, open air box w/ K&N & had to go up about 4 jet sizes so it's faster than a stock Banshee. The next weekend I raced my other friends new DS twice which was MUCH slower than the Banshee so I was in front quite a bit both times although the strip wasn't long enough for him to wind out 5th gear so he might have passed me on top end eventually, I dont know. Mine has the 12:1 head but those guys w/ the 14:1 or 15:1 heads or 440 kits on their Polaris's are much faster than I, so I'm not certain a Raptor would beat them all. I cant wait to drag race a Raptor. Theres a new one in my neighborhood so maybe I'll get a chance soon. A stock 400 Scramber or 500 doesn't have a chance against hardly any oposition but a modified 400 is pretty fast.
