I dam getting ready to redo the top end in my blaster and don't know what piston to run. Wisco seems to be the most prevelant, but is there something better out there? Thanks.

i've had good luck with Wiscoe. I think there might be someone that makes better pistons , but they cost alot more. I think there name is JEI!!!. A wiscoe piston should be sufficient for you, remember on two strokes you will probably replace the rings a few times before you have to replace the piston.

As an experienced 2 stroke builder and nut, I like Wiseco pistons. However, for a stock bike it is hard to beat the lifespan of the stock piston and rings. The ART cast pistons are very high quality, high silicon pistons. They operate in tighter tolerances than Wiseco forged pistons. This has some advantages, such as heat transfer, bore sealing and lubrication. The tighter tolerances also position the rings better.

Now for the other side of the story, Wiseco pistons can be lighter than stock, resulting in less vibration and less stress on the crank/rod assy. This can be very important when modified engines run far higher higher RPM's than the manufacturer intended. The forged pistons can also be stronger, due to uniform grain structrue internal to the piston. Also important in modified engines.

LA Sleeve and some others sell various brands of pistons and rings. Some for far less than Yamaha would charge. Some even claim that ART makes the pistons for these companies. My experience is that ART probably does not make the pistons for these companies. I have never seen one that says ART underneath, or looks to be the quality of an ART piston. Also, these other brands often have lower quality ring sets. Some are not even chrome faced! Just iron. What a good way to have a short engine life, using lower quality products. As a general rule, I stay away from these off brands, unless you KNOW exactly why you are using this particular brand. Gilardoni in Italy, for instance makes some fantastic products (not for the blaster though).

Very well put! A cast piston setup right will last much longer over a forged. Go with OEM, Pro-X, or WSM.
