Spray some lube on all the joints, it has to be sticking somehwere where it's close to the engine/trans, I don't think it would be your shifter lever assembly, has to be the linkages since they are close to heat.

You probably have some water and crap inside your shifter housing. Their is a drain tube which runs down from the bottom of this housing. At the end of this drain tube their is a plug which you have to remove and let the water/crap drain out. Leave this plug out for a few days to dry then spray some lube inside the shifter.
If this dosen't work you might have a problem with your shifting linkage, possibly might need new connectors or just adjustment.
