Thats a question that if 50 people respond you will get 50 diff opinions I bought that very quad new in 2000 when they came out with the new model.I used (and still do in all mine) Castrol 5w 50 synthetic. With that range in viscosity you cover the whole range. With the lower number being a 5 it will flow good in cold weather and the upper being 50 it will hold up well when hot.As hard as these engines work I feel using synthetic is the way to go and it's better.Just look what Ford,Chevy and Dodge use in their hi-performance cars from the factory....synthetic.....

thank you, i agree SYNTHETIC is the only way to go, my parents used to be amz oil dealers when I was growing up and my dad still pushes it through their vehicles. How Much does my Kodiak take. (quarts)?
