Default blster typical matenience

I was wondering. other than doing the top end of the quad what are the life expectencies for the other stuff. typical rider not racer . some jumps not big jumps. hill riding etc. i'm curious on the chain and sproket.


If they sell so many of these quads. they can't be junk.


I have alot for sale in my area. Iknow the wifey wants to get one quad for the two of us, but id rather get 2 blasters for both of us or something easier for her to drive. she can clutch so i'm not too worried. we had our eyes on a new o7 rancher but why pay 4500 when we can get 2 blasters for 3k.it makes more sense. all thinput, and critisim is most welcome.

Blasters can last a long time if your not racing them . I boought a 91 that was seized. it was the first overhaul. I think the sprocket is stock.

The biggest problem you're going to run into with used blasters, especially ones lower in the price spectrum, is that they are seldom cared for properly. Usually they are owned by younger kids, so they get beat to hell constantly, and kids don't know the meaning of the work maintenance. When you take a look at them, there are several things that you can look for that will reduce the chance of ending up with a lemon. Look over the frame closely for cracked paint or any signs that the frame has been bent. Get someone to pick up an end of it, and shake the wheels to look for any signs of bad bearings and bushings. In the front you have wheel bearings, shock bushings, and ball joints that can wear out, and in the rear you have swingarm bearings and axle bearings which commonly wear out. You're going to get what you pay for. Blasters aren't the most reliable machine in the world to begin with, and they also aren't designed very well for adult sized riders. I don't know how big you and your wife are, but most average size adults feel cramped on them, and the shocks also do about as good of a job as pogo sticks, so they ride rough. That combination usually means you're going home sore and stiff, and will probably be sore for a few days afterwards. If you do decide to get blasters anyways, look them over very careful before you buy any. As you already observed, they're everywhere so you should be able to find 1 or 2 in good shape in your area. Just don't buy one that looks like it's been beat up and neglected, because I can almost guarantee it'll turn into a money pit, and you'll have more than you spent on it invested just in replacement parts.

now i notice almost every one in my area either have new , different rear tires and or new exausast. I'm guessing this is quite common, If i find one set up that way. does the mods, which are basic interefere with the normal enginew life over a basic stock one?

Well, the tires are a big plus, the stock tires aren't very good at anything. The exhaust on the other hand can be a different story. If the exhaust was installed properly, then it's no big deal, and you get a little extra performance with no real loss in reliability. But if the carb wasn't rejetted after the installation, then the quad has most likely been running too lean, and that can cause problems. That makes the engine run hotter than normal and can cause numerous problems like warped heads and burned pistons and rings, and if none of those, then the additional heat at least accelerated wear on the engine's internals.

ok dumb question what is the term "jetting " mean i hear this term used alot in the forums, but in my atv days i've never heard of it. i will make sure i ask the seller. in the late winter /spring if he rejetted the carb, if i see a new pipe on the back. i wish i could find more reviews by magazines online on the blaster. i H ave found a few and found some modding up blaster in stage one to 3 in video's, and have watched every decent utube/putinfile video of riders and their blasters. I understand its a tad small quad. I Just not to interested in a sport quad without a 2 stroke. they sorta were made for em.

jetting is simply changing the jets, needle setting, and fuel screw position to adjust the air/fuel ratio that goes into the combustion chamber. An aftermarket exhaust system allows more air to flow through the engine, but doesn't automatically increase the amount of fuel that goes into the mix, so without rejetting it will be too lean, and lean isn't good for your engine.
