I just joined this forum today after reading all the great advice for raptor 50's. I also bought one for my daughter who was extremely dissapointed after ten minutes. I got in contact today with Al at rapor80racing and they told me dynatek makes cdi boxes for them that outperform all other cdi's. Al said the magnetek gets you a higher rev limiter than the other brands. I believe that stock is 8,000 and that procomm and big gun cdi's get you 9,000. Has anybody heard of this and do you guys think it will be worth the $300 dollar investment. I could find no info on dynateks website about a cdi for a 50. please help.

 

I cannot tell you how Dynatek's CDI works on the Raptor 50, but I do not think I would spend $300 on a CDI for the Raptor 50. We bought a CDI from RMStator.com for $99 (think it has went up a little since then) and it made a huge difference and I am happy with it.

Remember that the CDI is only part of the hop up on the Raptor 50. You have to cut the slide in the carb and cut the throttle stop in the thumb throttle. Without these two adjustments you will only be able to use 1/2 throttle. We also put in a K&N filter on ours.

With these adjustments it has made the 50 better. My 7-year old daughter loves it, but hops on her brothers 90 Predator every chance he lets it sit though.

 

I just did so more research on this cdi. I quess it doesn't have a rev limiter on it and it changes the spark to dc. The guys at raptor80racing recommended it as well as the k&n air filter, 80 slide, 80 throttle lever, and jet kit. I dont know if the cdi they offer is made by magnetek. On their website there is no brand name, unless the brand is dc. Al said that he has these cdi's custom made.
