no oil from oil galley bolt
#1
hey guys, i just got my 01 warrior started after 3 years of sitting. I did an oil change and will be doing a oil filter change as well. i checked today to see if the head was getting oil so i loosened the galley bolt to check for oil. i let it idle for about 3 min and nothing came out. I pulled to screw all the way out and wiped the oil on it off and put it back in and let it idle for another 2-3 min and then backed it off to see if there was oil and the bolt threads were still dry from wiping them. ive ridden it like this for about 5 hours like this because i didnt know. what could be the problem? ( the oil filter had about 2 hours on it b4 we put the quad away 3 yrs ago) and help would be appreciated. thanks -alex

Sounds like some kind of blockage, could just be to the port that feeds the galley bolt, you should see oil within 10-20 seconds after starting. Maybe try taking the bolt out, and use an air gun to give a good shot to the passage, maybe sitting so long has gummed up the galley bolt hole. Maybe try some carb cleaner to dissolve the gunk, then drain the oil and try again. If you have already rode it like that, chances are the main passages to the cam and such are fine, or you would have fried the cam or piston by now.

i have one more question as well. what is the purpose of the spring located inside the bolt? there was oil on there and i did pull it out. Im fearing that it controlled a ball valve and the ball fell? is this a possibility? thanks -alex

i pulled the whole mechanism out and the back of the mechanism was coated in clean oil so im assuming that the head is getting oil. i couldnt see why the oil was not getting to the bolt though.

You need to elaborate on what spring you are talking about. Are you talking about the spring from the oil drain hole or the spring from the CAM TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER? From the way I read your last couple of posts, you are not loosening the oil galley bolt; you are loosening the cam timing chain tensioner bolt. The oil galley bolt is on the head and not the cylinder.
Let us know if you are indeed on the wrong bolt and we'll go from there.

The oil galley bolt is an 8mm bolt to the right and just below the intake valve cover, you just need to loosen it, I always stuff some rags or paper towels near it to catch the oil that drips out, it has a copper washer on it too.
