Default bad gas?

I had left gas in my quad for some time and decided to drain it. When I drained the tank it came out clear but when I drained the carb bowls it looked gold. Did my gas go bad or is there some other reason for it to look different?

Default bad gas?

Old gas in the bowl tends to discolor and smell a little like paint thinner.

Fuel these days starts to go bad after about 2 weeks. After it starts to breakdown the smaller the quanity the faster ti goes bad. Smaller engines and carbs really get hit hard while cars and trucks can get by for longer periods. The discoloring is the stale fuel, you possibly wil have to clean the jets in your carb. At the very least run some Sea Foam though it to clean it up.

Well I don't plan on riding until thanksgiving so I think I'll clean the jets and I should check my floats anyway the raptor might be running rich then follow up with some seafoam. thanks for the replies.

Just to keep it from happening in the future if you aren't goign to ride it for a while take the petcock and turn it on off and then run the rest of the gas out off the carb so you won't have to worry about bad gas clogging up your jets.

My dealer recommends using fuel stabilizer in the tank if you're not going to run the machine for longer than 2 weeks. I learned my lesson the hard way. I had a needle seize in the float bowl about a month ago due to bad gas.

The gas in your tank was good, the gas in carb was bad ; gas in the carb bowl goes bad first ! What i do is add a few squirt's of Stabil - fuel stablizer every tank full , then ride until the carb has burned the untreated fuel and treated fuel has filled the carb ! When i'm not going to ride for over a month i put some seafoam to the tank, it's a fuel cleaner/stablizer the seafoam will clean out your entire fuel system and also the combustion chamber ; you can get the seafoam at most auto parts store ! I got mine at O'Reallys for $4.99 + tax , i think you can get it at auto zone and advance auto parts store's also ; maybe even your local Wal - Mart ! But the seafoam is best by far, you can use it in 2 and 4 stroke engine's ; even add to your engine oil just before each oil change ! This stuff really does a good job at cleaning all the crap buildup from the crank case and oil cooler an line's ! Well worth the money to use in every tank full, this is the best fuel treatment i've ever used in over 20 year's in the small engine service and repair !!! ...............williebee
