Friend I have in our fishing group has a 98 600 Grizzly. He has 2500 miles on his and he likes it. The motor is from the tried and true 600 Yamaha dual purpose motor bike so the motor should hold no surprises.

My brother in law has a 99 Griz he bought new. It has been mostly trouble-free. This summer it backfired and actually blew the carb off the manifold. Besides that, it has been mostly wear items that have worn out.

The thing I do not like the most is how top heavy it is. Off camber situations are downright scary on that thing. Also the belt housing sticks out more than most other quads.

I have a 98 and have had the same thing happen with the carb shooting off when it backfired. And for some reason the valves keep going bad. I have changed the valve guides and it fixed it but about 1 year later it started smoking again. My dad wont fix it cause he NEVER rides. And now it smokes like a beoch. It uses about a quart of oil in about 2 1/2 hours. then i have to fill it back up. Other than that, it is a good machine.

also i think the problem with the valves is ether the mechanic (most likly) or the rider (also likely!!)

Default 600 GRIZZLY LONG LASTING?

I have a 600 Grizzly for the past 5 years. This last summer it started to smoke on startup. Found out from Yamaha dealer the 600's are know for the rings going bad. My compression is 106 psi. Do not know if this is low, the dealer said it is supose to be around 150psi. I have a 400 Kodiak and it is 116 to 145 psi. I also had a bearing and seal on the left rear axle go out. Nice machine but I feel not a long lasting one as compared to my 93 Kodiak.

Default 600 GRIZZLY LONG LASTING?

Hi, there! Let me tell you this:

I had a Grizzly 600 in 2006 for a while, an 1999 Grizzly, which i sold this winter. It had !!!!31.500 km!!!! on it (almost 20.000 miles) and the engine has been refurnished in 2005 at 28.000km. It still runs fine and the new owner is satisfied. I also found it unbelievable and if had not seen the repair notes i wouldn't have bougt it. But some repairs after 28.000 km is normal, don't you think?

I still haven't bought another ATV, i'm looking for a same ATV for fast trailriding, i am a little sceptic about the Grizzly 660, they say it's a little top heavy and tipsy. Is that right?

Best Regards,

Ralph
