I just got my first slip on pipe for my raptor. it's a muzzy and i'm pretty sure that a lot of them are made like this but I am having trouble understanding the springs holding the mid pipe on. First off they rattle a lot, second, they have zero tension on them even with the pipe pushed and pulled every direction possible to make them tight. what is the reasoning for this?? why not a weld around the pipe to make it one strong, unrattling piece?

 

Many pipes use springs to hold pieces together because there is less chance of pipe cracking due to vibration. Some pipes use rubber bushings/dampers and some pipes are just hard bolted together. The springs should be tight however. I would phone Muzzy and ask if you have the correct springs and if you have correct pipe.

 

Using springs is a cheaper design to produce. You're going to get some amount of rattling, noise, and the potential for an occasional broken/lost spring. Sometimes you need to step back and realize what you paid and figure that into the overall expectation.

I looked at the Muzzy but I didn't like the spring setup and when I emailed them I did not like what they told me their pipe would get me .4 to .8 hp with a slip on. I also didn't like the fact they offered no quiet configuration. Nothing against them personally, but I did a lot of research before deciding I'd shop for some deals on another brand of pipe I liked the overall design, features, and performance spec of.
